By combining face-to-face online classes, self-paced coursework, and on-ground learning opportunities, MPH@Simmons provides students with real-world public health experience without requiring them to relocate or stop working. Students actively participate in their learning as they develop the skills to address health inequity at the population level.
Live Online Classes
In our weekly live classes, students interact with Simmons' faculty of public health experts as well as diverse classmates located around the country. The interactive classroom allows students to explore the core areas of public health and engage in robust discussions surrounding solutions to health inequity. Each class has approximately 15 students, and students can break into small discussion groups through the platform, which facilitates and promotes interactive and collaborative work.
Outside of scheduled class sessions, students can view recordings of their classes to reinforce their learning.
Interactive Self-Paced Coursework
Each week, MPH@Simmons students will work on interactive assignments that inform their next live class session’s discussions and activities. Students can complete the coursework at any time throughout the week as their schedule allows. Assignments may include viewing lectures or interviews, exploring public health websites and resources, and responding to discussion questions in writing or through video.

The in-person immersion courses are an integral part of the MPH@Simmons program, where students will gain hands-on public health experience within diverse cultures and contexts. Students are required to attend two immersions, one on the Simmons campus in Boston and one destination immersion. These multiday events give students the opportunity to:
Collaborate with faculty and classmates in U.S.-based or international public health settings.
Acquire crucial on-ground public health experience that employers value.
Learn from local public health professionals and community-based partners.
Learn career-advancing leadership skills for social change in public health and health equity.
The Simmons learning experience is always focused on our students. Our faculty members are available for individual appointments to assist students, and our advisors support students throughout the program as they advance their careers.
A dedicated admissions counselor guides prospective students through the application process and answers any questions they may have.
Once students are admitted into MPH@Simmons, our student support team walks them through the online campus, delivers technical support, and helps them register for courses.
After students enroll, a dedicated academic advisor supports them as they strive to achieve their academic goals. Students in the online MPH program also have access to Simmons resources such as the digital library and career services.
Graduation and beyond
Simmons invites graduating online students to join their classmates in Boston for Simmons’ commencement ceremony. Our graduates then gain access to the support and resources of our worldwide alumni network.
