The MPH@Simmons program explores the core areas of public health: epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy/health services, environmental health, and social/behavioral health. Additionally, our practice-based curriculum incorporates courses specifically designed to develop students’ leadership and advocacy skills. Students graduate from the program with on-ground public health experience as well as a portfolio that demonstrates their ability to create, implement, and evaluate projects, programs, and campaigns targeted at improving health equity across populations.

Focus on Advancing Health Equity
The concept of health equity stems from an understanding that public health and social justice are inextricably intertwined. By viewing health through an equity lens, we understand that health disparities are produced and reproduced by social, economic, and environmental systems of disadvantage faced by some populations and not others.
While other programs may touch on the topic of health equity, the MPH@Simmons curriculum is dedicated to training public health professionals to identify and address the root causes of health inequity. Our curriculum weaves health equity into every aspect of the program, culminating in a community-based Health Equity Change Project.
Learn Through an Innovative Online Platform
MPH@Simmons is delivered through our interactive online platform that offers a blend of live, online classes; self-paced content; and in-person immersions to ensure a high-quality learning experience that fits into the lives of working professionals. Each week, students complete dynamic course content before discussing the topics in depth with professors and classmates during face-to-face online classes.
Mission and Vision
The mission of MPH@Simmons is to train public health leaders who are committed and prepared to work concertedly toward health equity locally, nationally, and globally. We strive to reduce entrenched health inequities by addressing the sociostructural determinants of health, often situated in historical systems of racism and other forms of oppression, through innovative education, interdisciplinary collaboration, applied research and practice, community mobilization, and health advocacy.
Our vision is a world in which all individuals and communities, regardless of identity, location or circumstance, are assured fair and equitable opportunity to achieve optimal health and well-being.
