Class And Technology Questions
1. When will my live classes take place?↑
Live classes are generally held in the mornings and evenings. Registration for courses will open approximately five weeks before your cohort start date, and you will have the opportunity to register for classes that best meet your schedule. Spots are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Because you cannot register until we have received your enrollment deposit, we recommend that you submit your deposit as soon as possible. Submit your deposit here.
2. Do I need to purchase a new computer to use the 2SW platform?↑
Your current computer or laptop should be sufficient to access the 2SW platform and your live classes. If you would like to purchase a new computer, you can do so, but it is not required. You may need to purchase an external webcam or Ethernet cable if you do not already have one. While you can access the platform on most tablets and smartphones, you will need a hardwired laptop or desktop to attend live classes.
3. When will I gain access to the 2SW platform?↑
You will receive your 2SW login information within one business day of when you pay your deposit. You will be able to create your Simmons account approximately 48 hours after you pay your deposit.
4. How many hours a week should I expect to spend on the program?↑
Live sessions are weekly and last 90 minutes. Some extended students can expect to spend approximately three hours each week in live classes and full-time students can expect to spend approximately six hours each week in live classes. The time you spend completing your self-paced coursework, readings, and assignments each week will vary, depending on your own personal understanding of the material. On average, however, you can expect to spend three to five hours per course each week completing coursework, assignments, and readings.
5. How can I pay my enrollment deposit?↑
You can pay your $300 enrollment deposit directly in the online application using a MasterCard or Visa debit or credit card.
Field Placement Questions
1. Will I need to purchase malpractice insurance to complete my field practice?↑
No. Simmons provides all students with malpractice insurance during their field placements.
2. How far will I need to travel for my field placement?↑
We make every attempt to locate a placement site that meets your educational needs. At times, the best placement match is farther from your home than you may prefer. You are required to be able to commute up to 60 miles to your placement site. If you are requesting accommodations at your field placement site, please inform the placement team and contact the Simmons disability office at 1-617-521-2474 for assistance.
Tuition And Financial Aid Questions
1. Will tuition change each academic year?↑
A moderate tuition increase can be expected for each academic year.
2. How long after submitting the FAFSA should I expect to hear from the financial aid office at Simmons?↑
Once your FAFSA is filed and the information is transmitted to Simmons, it will take the Office of Financial Aid at least three business days to process your application and another three business days to compile your financial aid package. You should expect to receive a letter in the mail approximately one week after we receive your FAFSA. Keep in mind, it may take two weeks for Simmons to receive your FAFSA information, so it’s best to file early. Please contact Simmons Student Financial Services with any questions or concerns at 617-521-2022.
3. How much should I expect to pay for books while I wait on my book advance?↑
If you are enrolling in the extended program, you can expect to pay about $500 for books for your first term. If you are enrolling full time, you can expect to pay about $750–$850 for books for your first term. If you are enrolling in the accelerated program, you can expect to pay about $1,100 for books for your first term. Costs will be reduced if you purchase used books.
4. What if I can’t pay my tuition all at one time?↑
Payment plans are available. If you are interested in setting up a payment plan for your tuition, contact Student Financial Services.
5. How do I apply for a Graduate PLUS loan?↑
To apply for a Graduate PLUS loan, you must first complete the FAFSA online. PLUS Loans are credit-based loans and can be used to cover tuition and fees. To complete your Graduate PLUS loan application, (1) visit studentloans.gov and complete the online application, (2) sign the Master Promissory Note, and (3) complete entrance counseling.
