Food labels are designed to help consumers make informed health decisions while purchasing food products. However, food labels are also used as marketing tactics intended to help sell a product. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) aid in the regulation of food labeling, though it is ultimately the consumer’s responsibility to understand how different terms such as organic, all natural, or GMO-free are being defined.
