The Evolution of Nursing Uniforms
A recent exhibit featured at the NIH’s National Library of Medicine called “Pictures of Nursing,” highlights a historic collection of postcards and artistic renderings related to the evolution of nursing. These depictions, though meant for public consumption, are particularly interesting to examine from the perspective of a modern nurse. Trends such as nurses’ caps and scrub dresses are now considered unnecessary, but are an important part of nursing history.
