HealthCareMBA@Simmons is the online Master of Business Administration in Health Care program from Simmons School of Business. The program is designed to develop and prepare professionals who are passionate about health care for leadership roles with health care providers, insurance providers, and providers of products and services to the health care industry.
How is HealthCareMBA@Simmons different from other online programs?
HealthCareMBA@Simmons students attend live, face-to-face classes each week to engage in in-depth discussions with faculty and classmates. Coursework is delivered through a variety of multimedia formats, offering an interactive and engaging online learning experience. Students also attend an in-person immersion experience on campus in Boston, Massachusetts, and have the option to attend immersions in other cities around the world, where they can build upon the skills and knowledge gained throughout the program in person with their faculty and peers.
How does HealthCareMBA@Simmons differ from other advanced health care degrees?
Though MHA and similar programs prepare students for managerial roles in health care organizations, the health-care-focused business education offered by Simmons can prepare students more holistically for these roles by developing the students’ abilities to view the many facets of the industry and make informed, strategic decisions. How does HealthCareMBA@Simmons differ from MBA programs that offer a concentration in health care?
HealthCareMBA@Simmons devotes more than half of its curriculum (60 percent) to health-care-specific courses. With such a deep dive into the health care field, students learn business concepts through a health care lens. Is Simmons School of Business accredited?
Simmons School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a distinction awarded to only about 5 percent of institutions worldwide granting business degrees.
How many credits are required to complete the HealthCareMBA@Simmons program?
Students must complete a total of 50 credits (48 required course credits, 2 immersion credits) to earn their MBA in Health Care online from Simmons College.
Is the online program available full time and part time?
HealthCareMBA@Simmons is a part-time program that offers students the flexibility to manage their education in addition to personal and professional commitments. Most students take two courses (6 credits) per term, but students may choose to take one course (3 credits) per term.
How long does the program take to complete?
The program can be completed in as few as 24 months by taking two courses per term.
Can I work full time while enrolled in the program?
Yes. The HealthCareMBA@Simmons curriculum is designed for students already working in the health care field. Our innovative online format enables working professionals to better manage their personal and professional commitments while completing their coursework.
Will I be required to visit campus?
Yes. Students are required to attend one in-person immersion on campus in Boston, Massachusetts, and will also have the opportunity to attend immersions in other cities around the world. Immersions are designed to build upon the curriculum and allow students and faculty to meet in person.
What is the student-to-faculty ratio?
Classes generally consist of approximately 15 students. This is to ensure that each student can develop close, personal connections with classmates and professors.
Are there concentrations available?
HealthCareMBA@Simmons is already a specialized MBA program and does not offer concentrations.
Will my diploma indicate that I earned my degree online?
No. Your diploma will state that you earned a Master of Business Administration in Health Care from Simmons College.
What is the online learning experience like?
HealthCareMBA@Simmons uses a blend of live, online classes and self-paced content, as well as in-person immersions to ensure a high-quality learning experience and full mastery of health care business principles. Our unique approach to online learning brings students across all 50 states and around the world together for our online graduate nursing, social work, MBA, health care MBA, and behavior analysis programs.
What are live class sessions like?
Through our innovative online learning platform, you are able to attend Simmons’ MBA in Health Care classes from any place with an Internet connection. As a student, you will participate in weekly, live classes, hosted face-to-face in our innovative online classroom. Classes are taught by the same expert faculty who teach on campus. The live format encourages collaboration and connections with classmates and faculty, allowing students to forge real and lasting relationships.
How is the coursework delivered?
Course content is developed by Simmons faculty, who are nationally recognized experts in the health care industry. Our content is designed from the ground up in order to provide a rich, online learning experience. Students engage with documentary-style videos, case studies, readings, and written and video assignments, which can be accessed at any time, giving you the ability to work at your own pace.
Are standardized test scores required to apply?
No. Applicants can submit GRE and/or GMAT scores if they choose, but these scores are not required for admission to the program. Applicants are instead asked to discuss their quantitative and analytic abilities within the application.
Do I need to hold a particular undergraduate degree to be eligible for the program?
No. While applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, the type of degree earned does not impact your eligibility for the program.
I'm not a U.S. resident. Can I apply?
No. The HealthCareMBA@Simmons program is only open to U.S. residents who currently reside in the United States.
Do I need to complete an interview?
An interview is not required; however, the admissions committee may request an evaluative interview upon review of your completed application. You will not need to visit campus to take part in the interview.
